This is going to sound like I’m whining but whatever. Before I “joined” the Tumblr fashion community I was actually a writing blog (on a completely unrelated topic) but I found that I had a lot to say about fashion so I immersed myself. I followed a bunch of fashion blogs because I thought that I would be more inspired to write about the subject, but then I started to notice a trend. The same pictures kept popping up on my dashboard; the same grainy images of Japanese avant-garde fashion from the 90s, detail shots of buttons from twelve different angles, and all these bloggers would reblog each other in a circle jerk of Meisel editorials and captions of “slaying the bitches!!! werk~ etc etc etc”
Okay.
There are some very well curated fashion blogs on this website. They have very specific taste and I could spend hours in the archives. But there are also a lot of people who are competing in this imaginary race, desperately hoping to be the first to post the new Kate Moss editorial, or turn this Prada show into a gif. Double points if you make it into the fashion tag. Oh and lord forbid that someone takes your picture—the same one you took from style.com and spent 2 seconds cropping—and it gets more notes!!!!
You used to love me,
and now you’re a stranger
who happens to know all
of my secrets."
